Wanted: Stamping Time

FINALLY! Some time to stamp! Just a few minutes, I think I've been working on this one for about an hour (short one for me!). I made this card just in the nick of time for Julee's 75K Challenge, so it's pretty simple.

There were a couple of things I set out to use on this card. The first was the Purple Onion Designs stamps that Julee sent me a while back. Also, I found some 5/8" grosgrain ribbon today in Pumpkin Pie, so I wanted to use it also.

When I make a card, I usually start with the focal image. That's why it's usually first in my post. Does that bother you? Sometimes I feel like I'm explaining backwards...let me know what you think.

Anywhoo...I stamped the Boss Lady stamp in Palette Hybrid Noir on Whisper White cardstock from Stampin Up. I colored her with markers, punched the corners, and distressed the edges. Sponged her in Saffron, Cocoa, & Chocolate Chip, then matted her on Pumpkin Pie.

Then I stamped the "Wanted" stamp (part of the set Julee sent me), in Palette Hybrid Burnt Umber, and then Noir on top and a little to the left for a drop shadow effect. (Used my Stamp a majig for this!) I distressed the edges of that and matted on Taken with Teal.

The card base is Kraft, which I stitched around the edges, and then tied my 5/8" grosgrain around it. I hope you like it!

Don't forget...an hour left for my challenge!! Got the goodies ordered and they're on their way!!

So Blessed!

I just wanted to share a couple RAKS that I've gotten lately...I feel so loved every time I get a card in the mail amongst the bills! I also wanted to take a second to shout out to all my "imaginary cyber space friends"...I really feel loved when I get an email asking if I'm feeling better or just saying hi! It's been a long time since I've had girlfriends, and yall are just awesome!

K, enough sap...on with the RAKS.

I got this AMAZING card from Julee a little while back, and inside was the most fabulous set of Purple Onion Designs stamps!!! What a sweetheart! I <3>

This cutie patootie card is from my girlfriend Christi, who I've just reconnected with from a long time ago. I love this card, and it's just executed amazingly! All her layers and lines are just perfect! Not to mention that it's pink, and the DP is awesome too!

This last one is from AJ, who was my lil Secret Sis last round. We've been great friends ever since, and she sent me this card, made with some stamps I sent her for her reveal pkg. She even sent me some images to play with...how sweet is that?! I love everything about this card...it just made me smile!
Just a reminder, there's still time to enter the Carpe Diem contest... I'll take entries until tomorrow night at midnight. I have to give my group some time for judging, so if all goes well, I will post winners on Monday!! I have received some AMAZING entries so far, and I can't wait to show them to you all!
Also, you have time to enter Julee's contest too...she's giving away 2 awesome prizes!!

Why wait? Procrastinate Today!!

I signed up for a swap a good month ago. It's called "Show us What you can do"...if that tells you anything. So what did I do? Not only wait until the night BEFORE I have to mail them to finish, but I also decide on the toughest most impractical swap card I could think of. I just really wanted it to be me, ya know? I have been so busy at work and tired and now I'm starting to get sick, so I just kept pushing it to the back.

So here it is, in all its "mee-ness!" Ya like? I spent 15 minutes just trying to decide whether the star should be there or not, then I decided what the heck.

This is actually just a card front, measuring 5x5. I had to cut the Pumpkin Pie pieces in half to fit through my cuttlebug (thanks, Julee for the idea!!), then covered the seam with some Tres Jolie Paper mounted on Close to Cocoa, and sponged around the edges. Two Chocolate brads on top & bottom finished that off.

For the main image, I stamped Carrie (Rubber Romance from eclectic Paperie) in Palette Hybrid Noir on Pearlized White Cardstock. Then I watercolored her with a blender pen, aquapainter, and classic ink pads. I sponged Close to Cocoa & Chocolate Chip all around the edges to give her a little "dirtyness", and then stamped the sentiment & star swirly thingie from the Faux Ribbon set in Chocolate Chip ink.

Then of course, I had to sew! I sewed her onto a Chocolate Chip Panel, and popped that up on Pop Dots. For the finishing touch, I stamped the star (Autumn Leaves something or other) in Chocolate Chip Craft Ink on Cool Caribbean cardstock, and then embossed it with Clear Detail Embossing Powder. Punched a couple holes with my Crop-a-dile to make a "button" and then tied a piece of Chocolate Grosgrain through it. Stuck that baby on with a Glue dot and I'm done!

Going to bed now, thank goodness! Don't forget...you still have time to Carpe Diem!!

Carpe Diem!!

[Keating is standing on his desk]

John Keating: Why do I stand up here?

Dalton: To feel taller!

John Keating: No! [Dings a bell with his foot]

John Keating: Thank you for playing Mr. Dalton. I stand upon my desk to remind myself that we must constantly look at things in a different way.

You might recognize the above from the movie Dead Poets Society, which is one of my favorite movies, and the inspiration for this contest.

Your challenge is this: To make a card with a stamp and/or stamps and use them in a way which they were not intended or designed. Hopefully this isn't too confusing, but I sure thought it would be fun!

Here are a few samples to help spark your creativity:

Fancy Florals Butterfly

Lisa Johnson's Faux Lamp Card

Debbie Olson's An Evening to Remember Card

Watering Can (by an 8 year old!!)

Beate's Pick a Petal Ladybug

I have enlisted a group of ladies from an invite only swap group to judge the contest entries, and there will be 3 winners!!

Most creative all-around wins a package of Paper Accents Pearlized White Cardstock!

Best Executed Stamp Transformation wins a 6x6 pad of the new Basic Grey Mellow line, and some matching ribbon!

Best Layout wins the Thoughtful Phrases set from Verve Visual!

You have until Midnight, Central Standard Time on August 31 to email me or post a link to this blog entry with your submission, so get to thinking, people! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

A Ladybug for the Teacher

My baby is started 2nd grade...I can't believe it. He didn't even want me to take him to school...he wanted to ride the bus! Can you believe it??? He didn't win, BTW. :D

This is a card I made for the color challenge on Splitcoast this week, which was to use Soft Sky and Groovy Guava. I knew I wanted to do something to send to Caleb's teacher on the first day, so I went to my trust Little Lady set from Papertrey Ink.

I stamped the large ladybug in Guava & Palette Hybrid Noir on Papertrey White Cardstock. Then I stamped her trail & the sentiment (which I think is PERFECT for the first day for a 2nd grade teacher!) in Palette Hybrid Noir as well. I rounded 2 corners, matted on Basic Black and Guava, and stitched with my trusty old Brother machine.

I ran the Soft Sky panel through my Cuttlebug Dots & Spots (or is it Spots & Dots?) embossing folder, and then mounted on Basic Black. The card base is also Papertrey White. To finish it off, I tied some Guava double stitched ribbon around, threw in some May Arts dotted organdy, and popped the main image up on Pop Dots.

I hope it made her smile...at least before she starts to lose her mind. ;)

Stamps: Papertrey Ink Little Lady, Paper Tray
Cardstock: Papertrey White, Basic Black, Groovy Guava, Soft Sky
Ink: Groovy Guava, Palette Hybrid Noir
Accessories: Cuttlebug Spots & Dots embossing folder, Sewing Machine & Thread, Pop Dots, SU Double Stitched Guava Ribbon, May Arts Ribbon

Limited Supplies...You'd better put on your Sunglasses...

Boy, this card is BRIGHT! It's a little out of my comfort zone, but isn't that what a challenge is about?

I decided to do some challenges...I've been sooo busy that I haven't really had time lately. So I started with the Limited Supply Challenge from SCS. The limits were as follows:
1. Choose one or more stamps that haven't seen ink in a long time.
2. Choose an old sketch challenge.
3. Choose an old color challenge.
4. Choose 1 or 2 embellishments. Try and choose something you've been hoarding.
5. Use any tools.

So I chose this Stampendous stamp I bought in February called Witch Shoes, and I have NEVER used it. So today's the day! The color combo I chose (Yikes!) is Tempting Turquose, Apricot Appeal, & Cameo Coral, and I chose an old sketch challenge (kinda flipped it and made my own sketch...oops!) to try for this.

I stamped the Witch Shoes stamp in Palette Hybrid Noir on Pearlized White cardstock, and then colored with markers and Ink Pads w/ a Blender Pen. I mounted the image on Basic Black CS and stitched around the edges.

I ran the Turquoise panel through my Cuttlebug D'Vine Swirls Embossing folder for some texture, and then rubbed the edges on my Palette Hybrid Noir inkpad. I thought it looked better mounted on black so I did that with a tiny border. I also colored the middle set of shoes with the Sakura Quickie Glue Pen, and sprinkled w/ Dazzling Diamonds.

I layered the Coral piece on Papertrey White Cardstock, and added Making Memories Brads (which I have been hoarding!!) to the corners.

The Apricot card base looked a little sad so I inked up my Print Pattern background with Tangerine Colorbox Chalk Ink, and stamped that, then accented the corners with my Black Sakura Glaze Pen.

I tried to pick the sketch and color combo that was the least "me"...so I could really make a challenge of it. I hope you don't hate it...Got something more "me" for tomorrow.

Love ya....stay tuned for the challenge...I'll post it on Monday to celebrate Back to School!!

Stamps: Witch Shoes (Stampendous), Print Pattern
Paper: Apricot Appeal, Cameo Coral, Tempting Turquoise, Basic Black, Papertrey White, Pearlized White
Ink: Palette Hybrid Noir, Colorbox Fluid Chalk - Tangerine
Accessories: Making Memories Brads, Sakura Black Glaze Pen, Cuttlebug D'vine Swirls Embossing Folder, Sewing Machine & thread, Ink Pads & Blender Pen

P.S.

I'm cookin up a contest...get out your creative thinking caps...the prize will be an awesome one!!!

What a WEEK!

I am woman.
I am invincible.
I am...

TIRED.

It's 10:15 pm and it feels like it's the wee hours of the morning. I have had a crazy week due to work and am so happy that it's the weekend. About to go to bed, but wanted to share the card I made for my Granny from us for her birthday. At this point I'm so glad we're not traveling to Missouri...I am just exhausted. Going to be a short post!!

I finally finished something with my Rubber Romance Babs stamp! I colored her with Prismas & OMS, then painted the bubbles with a Lumiere & water mixture. I attempted to stitch around the edges but my needle came unthreaded so I just pierced and faux stitched with my chocolate chip marker.

Used some Basic Grey Infuse paper as the background, & my corner rounder to make the edge scalloped. I mounted the DP on Blush Blossom card base. Sentiment is from A Muse, Ribbon from May Arts. I'll post the recipe tomorrow.....Night!! Happy Weekend!!!!!!!!!

Stella Ruby Bloom

Happy Birthday to Granny! I made this card for my mom to give to my grandmother for her birthday celebration (80 years!) this weekend...we aren't going to be able to make the trip to Joplin. boo...
I didn't have a ton of time but knew I wanted to use the Stella Ruby paper. I thought the Fresh Bloom by Stampendous was a great image to go with it, so I stamped it in Palette Hybrid Noir on Pearlized Cream cardstock, and then watercolored it with my Aquapainter & Pretty In Pink/Rose Red ink.

I decided to do the cracked glass technique on this one, which is a technique I just recently mastered during the Dare to Get Dirty Challenge. After I cracked the embossing powder, I rubbed my Tim Holtz Distress Ink pad over it and wiped the excess. The ink goes down into the cracks, making the image look a little older.

The rest is pretty straightforward. I rounded the corners for a more feminine look...I hope she likes it!

Going to crash now...this week has been soooooooooooo busy. I'm looking forward to Saturday!!

Stamps: Stampendous Fresh Bloom
Paper: Paper Accents Pearlized Cream, Basic Black, Rose Red, Basic Grey Stella Ruby
Ink: Palette Hybrid Noir, Distress Ink (Tim Holtz), Versamark, Pretty In Pink, Rose Red, Marigold Morning
Accessories: Clear Embossing Powder, Aquapainter, Heat Tool, Corner Rounder, Ribbon
Techniques: Cracked Glass, Watercolor

I'm the Boss Lady

Ok, not really, but I am in love. With this stamp. Seriously. There are a couple more that I need, and I have forgotten the company but I think it's Mrs. O'Leary's or something like that. They were having a trunk show at Stamp Asylum in Plano, and I was right there, so I HAD to stop, right?!

ETA: I have located Mrs. O'Leary's website, although I cannot find the stamps there that I saw at the trunk show. If you want to order them, I'd suggest shooting her an email. Happy Shopping!

I couldn't wait to ink this one up...she was just sooo cool. I stamped her in Palette Hybrid Noir on Papertrey White Cardstock, and then colored her with Prismacolors & Odorless Mineral Spirits. I matted her on Basic Black cardstock and did some white stitching around the edges.

I was actually attempting to do Beate's weekend sketch for this card, but it just didn't work out that way. I used my favorite cowgirl color combo, Real Red, Creamy Caramel, & Barely Banana, with a little black thrown in. I stamped the Caramel strip with my Paisley BG stamp in Close to Cocoa Ink, matted on Real red, and then sponged the edges with Cocoa & Chocolate Chip ink. I found this bandana print paper (no idea who makes it but I got it at Michael's forever ago), and stitched the red/caramel strip onto it. The gingham ribbon added some more cowgirl vibes.

I used the ticket corner punch to make a little cutout for the silver brads, layered onto Basic Black cardstock, and then adhered to my Banana Card base. The main image is popped up on UBER pop dots (the big mommas), which I love.

Hope you've enjoyed my little piece of Texas...have a great night!

Yes, Another Paint Can!

Finally done with the paint cans...I had to do 2 this weekend. This one is for the daughter of a lady I work with, and she's having a girl in about 4-6 weeks. Yeah, I know this one looks remarkably like the one from the other day, but when it works, it works! I used my Tres Jolie paper from Eclectic Paperie on this one...it's just sooo yummy. Stitched around the edges and used my cuttlebug for her name. I painted the chipboard letters with Deco Color Pigment Ink, and then embossed them with Irridescent Ice embossing powder. Ribbon is from May Arts and grosgrain from Michaels.

Inside the tin were these stamped onesies...how cute are they?!

Stamps: Sweet on You, Big Blooms, Think Big, Wild About You, Headline Alpha, So Very, Mike's $1 Stamps, Small Sayings, Autumn Leaves Clear Stamps
Ink: Real Red Craft, Chocolate Chip Craft, Colorbox Pigment Ink, Deco Color Pigment Ink

Tomorrow's the day!!

The new Verve Visual set, Fancy Florals, will be shipping to those who preordered it, and will be available to order. If you haven't preordered, there's still time to get the special pricing...so hurry!

A few months ago I went through a phase of collecting items to alter. Most of them never got altered...so I decided to pull out one that was much neglected, this DVD tin I bought at Stamp Salado a good year ago. I covered the front with my Cosmo Cricket Gretel Paper, and then sanded and sponged the edges. Then I took another piece of Gretel in a different pattern, layered it onto Blush Blossom Cardstock, and stitched around the edges with my sewing machine. Using my Tonic Distressor, I roughed up the edges of the Blush CS, then sponged all the edges with Close to Cocoa and Chocolate Chip ink. You can't really see it very well, but I stamped "Cherish" from my Baroque Motifs set in Chocolate Chip Craft Ink & embossed it with Antique Gold embossing Powder. I wish it was more prominent...oh well.

The flower was made with a technique that's new to me called Paper Tole. It was pretty fun, and I think it turned out ok. The flowers from Fancy Florals were stamped in Palette Hybrid Burnt Umber on Pearlized Cream cardstock, and then I colored them with Prismacolors & Odorless Mineral Spirits. For the flower center, I used some cool Nostalgiques Paper Clips, but I cut off the clip with my Craft & Rubber Scissors from SU, and glued it down with Diamond Glaze. Pretty nifty, huh?

I thought the May Arts ribbon added a little something to the front, and so I wrapped it around and tied a bow on the inside. I make kind of a little pocket inside the lid of the tin using a solid side of the Gretel Paper and then a patterned piece. I used Tacky Tape on the sides & bottom of the patterned piece to create the pocket, and stuck the ribbon in place with Glue dots.

Well I better run...for some strange reason, my family expects food. Why can't we have Pop Tarts for dinner? ;)

Stamps: Fancy Florals (Verve Visual), Linen BG, Baroque Motifs
Paper: Gretel by Cosmo Cricket, Blush Blossom, Pearlized Cream
Ink: Palette Hybrid Burnt Umber, Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa, Chocolate Chip Craft
Accessories: May Arts Ribbon, Tonic Distressor, Sewing Machine & Thread, Nostalgiques Paper Clip, Antique Gold EP, Diamond Glaze

Look, Ma!

I SEWED!!!!

I am so stinkin proud of myself I could just PIMP. Seriously. Let's rewind.

About 4 years ago, my darling husband went and bought me a second hand sewing machine. I am a firm believer that they don't make household machinery like they used to (ie. dryers, washers, mixers, sewing machines, etc.)...they are meant to break after 3-4 years so you'll buy a new one. This is an old Brother machine from the 70's, and it even had the manual, thank the LORD. AND it was $40. You just can't beat that.

When he bought it, I tried sewing for about 2 minutes and gave up. Haven't touched it since. But today I had another moment of brilliance. My girlfriend had asked me to make an altered paint can for her sister's baby shower gift, and I decided to sew on it!!

Notice the time of my post. It is currently 1:48 am. But that's not totally my fault, I've had a kiddo with a tummy ache...but I digress. I dug everything out of the closet so I could get to my sad lonely machine. I got it out, found the manual and all the paraphernalia, and actually threaded it on the first try! My granny would be so proud...it's kinda like riding a bike!

It really didn't take long before I was sewing the pink & green DP onto the white piece. I was instructed to not be too girly, no bows or sparkle (boo...) so I just matched the colors of her fabric. I cut out the baby's name (BRIA...what an awesome name!) using my Red Tag Alpha & Cuttlebug, painted the letters pink, & mounted them on white Giga Scalloped Rectangles. I used my Cropadile to put in some eyelets, and threaded my white grosgrain through and tied it around the can. Pretty simple!

But then, of course, I gotta make a matching card! I really just wanted to sew some more. So I cut 2 more pieces of DP (I'll list my recipe in the morning too tired now) into 4" x 4" squares and staggered them on a 5 1/8" square piece of Papertrey White Cardstock. Stitched around the edges, and tied a ribbon around. The sentiment is from the Mike's $1 bin, and I stamped it first in Regal Rose and then again in Palette Hybrid Noir, using my Stampamajig to make kind of a drop shadow with the pink. I punched it out with my 2" Marvy circle punch, and glued it onto this ginormous clear button from Bazzil. Stuck the button onto the card and I was all done!

Time for bed now...g'nite!

The RULES

I saw this the other day on Susan's blog, and had to share it. Thanks, Sus!
A Must read...ok I got bored after a while, but the first part is good:

Stampers' Rules of Acquisition
#1) You want it, therefore you need it.
#2) You need it, therefore you must buy it.
#3) All other things you need, including food, shelter, clothing, car insurance, and lunch money, are incidental in comparison to what you need for stamping.
#4) Never add up the total for what you have purchased for stamping.
#5) "If you're not sure you should buy something.........for *whatever* reason........if someone else says they have it and *like* it........then you *have* to buy it!"
#6) If you are compelled to calculate total dollars spent on stamping and related items, never count things that are not actual stamps.
#7) If you are compelled to calculate total dollars spent on stamping and related items, never include items that cannot be traced via the receipt (i.e. -- office supplies are office supplies, gift wrap is gift wrap -- never mind where it ends up in your house....)
#8) When writing checks from the joint checking account, always write "S.W." in the check register. You will know that this stands for Stamp Wares but DH will think it is Safeway when he scans the checkbook to see where you have been shopping. And he KNOWS groceries are expensive, and you need lots of them.... (editor's note: Substitute the grocery store in your cityfor Safeway; here it would be Sentry...[S. is for....])
#9) If a member of your family discards an item that is usable for stamping, you may replace it. For example, your husband receives a shirt as a gift - if he throws the tissue paper away you may purchase a replacement. You do not have to replace it with the same white tissue paper. This applies to candy bar wrappers that your kids throw away too, however they are not permitted to eat the replacement candy!
#10) If everyone else wants it, then you must want it too -- even if you don't know what it is. (case in point -- one word -- "blitzer")
#11) If everyone else wants it, even if you don't know what it is, and you find it on sale, buy it ALL.(Editor's note: This phenomenon is widely known as the SALE factor, and is the only situation in which the Stamper may completely ignore Rules of Acquisition #6 and #7, and announce gleefully how much money s/he has SAVED by purchasing said items. (This suspending of the rules is dependent upon: a) the actual percentage off, b) the total dollar amount spent c) the projected reaction of partner/other interested party. For more detailed worksheet on Rule Suspension see Stampers' Rules of Acquisition Handbook - Chapter 9, Sub-section C, Paragraph 14, and modelon facing page.)
#12) NEVER, NEVER let your DH read the Stamper's Rules of Acquisition........for reasons OBVIOUS to the seasoned stamper. For those of you who are newbies....does "the gig is up"mean anything to you?
#13) Reconciling yourself early to the fact that every trip to the stampstore costs a minimum of $40, even if your intentions were to buy justone sheet of sticker paper, will save you much anxiety and false guilt.
#14) Grabbags MUST be purchased at they time they are advertised. There very likely could bethat ONE special stamp you cannot live without, and the others work for RAKS! If you don't orderimmediately, you may lose that special stamp.
#15) Keep *everything*, no matter how useless or ugly or small it may be. It *will* become absolutely essential for a rubber project some day.
#16) When you buy something, use it before you read the directions.*(*Acquisition reasoning -- if you mess it up or break it, you get to buy another one...)
#17) You can't take it with you applies only to money. Begin gettingyour loved ones accustomed to the fact that you intend to be buried withyour stamps.
#18) Stamping is an inexpensive hobby. This can be proved by applying"Blondes' Logic" to your stamping purchases. For example, no hobby wherethe supplies usually cost under $10 can possibly be as expensive as bigticket, predominately male hobbies such as radio controlled airplanes, restoring vintage automobiles, pro-team season tickets, etc. This justmakes sense.
#19) Every stamper MUST own every type of glue that is on the market. However, s/he may restrict use to her/his favorite.
#20) Whenever a new stamp pad is made available, you must immediately purchase every one of the colors in which it comes.
#21) When getting a stamp for a particular project it is imperative that you buy the same image typefrom a variety of companies (a minimum of 3 is recommended). Once you actually sit down tomake the project you will find that it is much better that you have not limited your selection to just oneoption of the image.
#22) It is essential to have ALL the Fiskar edged scissors even if you know you won't use anything but the deckle edge. You never know when having the Victorian hearts flourish edge won't be PERFECT!
#23) Get all types of markers, don't limit your creativity to just Marveys and LePlumes. Make sure you have a good selection of Tombows, Tria's and even the cheap kind you buy at the market!
#24) The iron is NOT for clothes. Anyone who uses an iron for clothes is excommunicated from theStamper's Union. (Editor's note: You may avoid excommunication by following subsection B pursuant to rule #23 which in layman's terms translates as "you may use an iron for its original perverted purpose only by purchasing an auxiliary iron. However, only the old iron may be used for household purposes. Aforementioned perverted purpose is not one that is condoned by the Stamper's Union and should be performed ONLY by support staff personnel.)
#25) Tissue paper is for making envelopes and for hoarding. Never use it for wrapping packagesunless you have stamped on it first.
#26) There is absolutely NO such thing as too much paper...of any kind. Disregard nasty comments about the two years worth of New York Times stashed in the boxes at the back of the garage.Corollaries here are: a-the complete set of National Geographics is worth the $150...they are actually priceless. b-it is perfectly acceptable to save not only the wrapping paper on your presents, but allthe wrapping paper on everyone's presents...c-EVERYTHING is exotic paper and should be purchased and/or saved. Including the $24 a sheet stuff you saw at the specialty store.
#27) If you think there is a ghost of a chance that you might use it in a future project, buy it now.Cause if you need it later, you can bet a) you won't be able to find it, b) no one will have heard of it and c) there won't be a substitute.
#28) A stamper must purchase appropriate storage containers, shelves, bins, units, etc., for all stamping related purchases. A stamper has the right and responsibility to discard all previously purchased storage systems in order to purchase a new, more appropriate system at any time.
#29) A corollary to number 18 above: Stamping actually saves money. Stampingpromotes the do-it-yourself philosophy. This is evident in theactivities of mounting your own, carving your own, and making your ownpaper. By applying "Blondes' Logic" it can be concluded that you can'tafford not to stamp.
#30) Stamping is your civic duty. Think globally, act locally. Purchasingstamps and supplies is politically correct for the following reasons: 1.) It supports a local business and reduces the number of unemployed;2.) it promotes the arts and feeds starving artists (designers ofstamps); 3.) it supports minority owned businesses (many stamp companiesare run by women); and 4.) buying expensive, imported handmade paperstimulates the economies of developing nations. Thus purchasing stampsupplies is your civic duty. It logically follows that the world would bea better place if everyone stamped. Write your congressmen today tobegin the process of passing legislation making it illegal not to stamp.
#31) If you happen upon a super rs-related deal somewhere and you buy enough foryou and all your friends and your friends buy some from you--the money they give you is free to be used to purchase MORE RS stuff, since it has been "laundered" and isn't technically, coming out of your pocket!
#32 If, in the course of purchasing something, you also purchase something for a friend, the cost of the friend's merchandise is totally exempt from record-keeping. When she pays you back, it's "free money" and may be used for any purpose, particularlyif it involves stamping supplies.
#33 A corollary to Rule #32 is that the money the friend pays back is governed by the laws of "money saved," i.e., money you spend for someone else is "money saved" when returned to you, since you now did not spend that money. The proper phrasing is, "Honey, I bought some cardstock for Sue and she paid me back...boy, did I save some money!"
#34 "Screw it, buy them all!"

It's Preorder Time!!

Fancy Florals is available for preorder!! The new set from Verve is ready to roll, and if you order before August 19th at 11:59 PM Mountain Time, you will get it at a discounted price! Go check it out!

I'll try one!

What I love about stamping and the stamping community is that I am always challenged to try new things. Kirsten posted this Kick Stand Card the other day on her blog and I thought it might be cool to try! So here's my version!

The main image is one of the Stampendous Bees that Julee sent me a while back. I colored it with my Prismacolors and Odorless Mineral spirits, and highlighted some parts with my Sakura Stardust Pen & Black Glaze Pen. Then I mounted it on Chocolate Chip cardstock and made the scalloped edges with my small corner rounder.

The rest of the card is pretty simple. I stamped the Paisley BG stamp in Cool Caribbean on Papertrey White Cardstock, and cut 1 1/2" off the bottom. Added some doodles and ribbon, and then layered some orange cardstock inside the card with 2 rows of piercing on the bottom.

Anyway, hope you like it....thanks, Kirsten for the great inspiration to try something out of the box! You rock!!

This awesome pink & green card from Christina Fischer (cmf1216) totally made a bad day good. I just love this card!!! And thanks, Christina, now I need All in a Row!! ;) I am lovin her paper pieced outfit...sooo cute.

Last but certainly not least, here are 2 cards that Julee sent me FOREVER ago. I cannot describe to you the little tiniest details that Julee puts into her cards that I just don't think of!!

She just amazes me.

So this is the end of the very first edition of "Who has sent Shannan a RAK that she hasn't acknowledged?" Hopefully the last... Thanks, you guys!

I have been waiting and waiting...

To share this card with you all...this is one of those that I was hopping up and down so excited that it turned out just like it was in my head. Greatness!! To quote JanTink...YILM!! (Yes, I love myself!!)

When Julee first showed me the Fancy Florals set, the first thing I saw was a butterfly in the largest flower image. OMG! I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and make it so! Then I got out the paper from my design team kit and lo and behold...there are butterflies on the Gretel paper!!! It was just meant to be. Ok, now I've just lost it.

Anyway, to create the butterfly, I used the largest flower outline and stamped it in Ruby Red Ink on Pearlized Cream cardstock twice. I cut one out and left the other one for the underneath image. I also stamped (using my Stamp a majig) the "body" using one of the flower stems. I used the Out of the Box Technique to leave part of the butterfly over the edge of the main panel. I sponged and sponged it with Guava and Cocoa ink, then distressed and pierced the edges for more of a vintage look. I also pierced his trail & accented it with my Clear Glaze pen. To add some oomph, I layered the main image on Groovy Guava and Ruby Red, and stamped the sentiment from Thoughtful Phrases in the corner.

My Guava card base measures 5 1/4 square, and I layered the Gretel Paper (isn't it yummy??) on a piece of Vanilla Cardstock, and added some Chocolate Chip pieces with brads to accent the layout. The ribbon is May Arts (yummy too!!!) Dark Brown Wrinkled & some kind of yummy red stuff. I used a couple different layers of Mini Pop Dots between my cardstock layers for some emphasis, and last I folded the butterfly and stuck him on with 2 glue dots.

So I hope you enjoy my flash of (what I'd like to think is) brilliance...see...I told you that you were going to love this set!!

Great News & A Sketch Card

I just found out something great!!! You know that Fancy Florals set I've been gushing about from Verve? You can preorder on August 15th!! Woo hoo!! The set will ship out on the 20th when you preorder, how cool is that? Anyway, just wanted to share!

This is a card I made for my cousin's birthday, which is today! I used Jen del Muro's sketch challenge for the weekend, you can view it here. I love Jen's sketches and find myself using them over and over. Definitely will be the case with this one!
I am loving this color combo also, very clean and happy. I didn't think I would be a fan of Soft Sky, but let me tell you, I keep reaching for it.
I won't bore you with how this one's done, it's pretty straightforward. Hope you're having a great Sunday!

Stamps: Papertrey Ink Little Lady
Paper: Soft Sky, Purely Pomegranite, Whisper White, Basic Black
Ink: Purely Pomegranite, Palette Hybrid Noir

Ok, I may regret this...

But I've listed most of my retired stuff that hasn't seen ink in forever, as well as some of last year's in-color items. The list is here, and there is also a link to the right up above my picture. Thanks for looking!

P.S. I have a few other things I may get rid of...so if you're looking for anything, email me to see!

Darned Mosquito!!!!!!

There is one lone mosquito buzzing around my living room, just taunting me. It keeps flying just high enough where I can't get it. Hmph. Gotta love Texas in the summer.

So this card may look familiar. I've recreated the card from my card class for a Demo Convention Quality swap on Splitcoast. I jazzed it up a little, but I'm still worried that it's too simple. Any thoughts?

Also in the news on the Teubner homefront, it's the weekend and my mother in law is taking the boys to see Underdog tomorrow, giving me an awesome afternoon of quiet!! Not sure what I'll do yet, maybe stamp or take a nap or go lay out by the pool. Who knows?! Either way, I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend!

Another peek!

I am LOVING the Fancy Florals set by Verve Visual. The sentiments are awesome! It will be available to order on August 20th here. There are so many different things you can do with it... I just can't wait for yall to see!

For this card, I used Jen's sketch, with my own little twist of course. I couldn't resist using this new May Arts ribbon....so perfect for Fall, I think. My Creamy Caramel card base measures 5.25 x 5.25, and I stamped the flower centers in all 3 sizes on it in the same ink. Then I sponged it with Close to Cocoa to soften it a bit.

This DP is from the new Cosmo Cricket line, Gretel. I mounted it on Chocolate Chip cardstock, and tied the ribbon around the whole card base. The sentiment is stamped in Chocolate Chip ink on Paper Accents Pearlized Cream paper. I sponged it, mounted on Chocolate Chip, Really Rust, and then popped it up on another layer of Pearlized Cream with Mini Pop Dots. Layered over the ribbon just a bit, and finished it off with a row of piercing on the bottom edge.

I hope you all are doing well, I have been super slammed at work and trying to eek out any "me time" that I can! Guess what??? TOMORROW'S FRIDAY!!!!

A Sneek Peek....

What is that I hear? Oh, you've never seen this set before? Where can I buy it? Why here, of course! So this is a sneek peek at the brand spankin new not out yet Verve Visual set...ain't it PURDY? I am in love, seriously. Except that it took me FOREVER to trim because there are soooo many stamps in this set! You're gonna love it!
I needed to make a quick but pretty card, so I stamped the Fancy Florals set (available August 20th!!!) in Pretty in Pink & Regal Rose on Paper Accents Pearlized White cardstock, using 2 of the stamps for the 2-step stampin technique. Then I stamped the sentiment (also from Fancy Florals) in Palette Hybrid Noir, and dotted around the edges with my Sakura Black Glaze Pen. After that I matted the image on Regal Rose and Sage Shadow cardstock, and did some faux stitching on the Sage layer.
I cut a piece of my 6x6 Basic Grey Blush Pad (so pretty!) to adhere to the card base. I sponged Chocolate Chip around the edges and punched the bottom scallops with my corner rounder first.
Of course, I can't NOT make a card without ribbon...these are May Arts and some random grosgrain, so I tied these together and then popped up my main image on Pop Dots.
It has been a super longggggggggggggggg day and I'm sooooooooo tired, so I'll chat more tomorrow about the weekend events. Have a great one!

You can stand under my umberella, ella, ella, eh eh eh

So I was washing the dishes, like a good wife. There were 4 dishes that needed to be hand washed, and all the rest were in the dishwasher. For some reason, the spout on my kitchen sink decided to come loose from its socket. It would have been great if someone else had been doing the dishes. Not me.

All of a sudden the spout came loose and water started shooting from the faucet, straight up into the air. I was soaking wet, as was the ceiling and everything on the counter (which luckily wasn't much since I was almost done!), but my boys thought it was very funny!

So once I dried off I finished this card, which I decided to make because of my lack of an umbrella. I love these colors together, and I hope you enjoy them too!

Vintage Retro

I colored a few images tonight and decided to make a card with Retro Robin, who's new in the house. I got her in my last Eclectic Paperie order.

Ever since I saw the Dare to Get Dirty challenge for the Vintage Values technique, I knew I wanted to do a very modern image with this one. So here's Robin, who I stamped in Palette Hybrid Noir on Paper Accents Pearlized White cardstock. I colored her with Prismacolor Pencils & Odorless Mineral Spirits. Then I sponged her (and her little puppy) with Groovy Guava, Close to Cocoa, & Chocolate Chip, in that order. After layering Robin on a piece of Guava cardstock and sponging the edges, I pierced holes for the brads and put them in.

For the card base, I stamped Print Pattern on Tempting Turquoise in the same ink. I used a white gel pen to accent the points. I tied some May Arts ribbon & some SU Turquoise Grosgrain around, and then popped up the main image with Foam Mounting Tape. At the last minute, I added the sentiment from All Holidays, stamped in Palette Hybrid Noir.

I've had some questions regarding the Paper Accents Pearlized White Paper vs. Stampin Up! Shimmer White. I have to say that I really can't tell the difference between the two. When laid side by side, they are the exact same weight. I think (when really looking hard!) that the SU Shimmer CS is a TINY bit whiter, but I have found myself getting them confused, and I'm a pretty big paper snob! The texture is the same, they take ink the same, and they're both awesome for coloring (Prismacolors, Markers, Watercolor, etc...). Anyway, I hope this helps! Just make sure you order the cardstock and not the text weight paper...it's great and all but very delicate.

Have a great weekend!

Do-Over!!

I made this card last night, and woke up this morning to find that it needed a Do-Over. So off came the main image, and now it's "fixed" LOL. My intent was to make a clean, simple card with no distressing. I guess it's just a testiment to how things evolve as you work.

I started by stamping the sentiment from the All Holidays set in Groovy Guava Ink on Blush Blossom CS. Using my beloved Stamp-a-majig, I stamped the sentiment again a little off the original to do a shadow image in Chocolate Chip ink. I decided to use one of the Dare to Get Dirty challenges, which was called Vintage Values. I sponged Groovy Guava, Close to Cocoa, & Chocolate Chip out towards the edges of the image, and distressed the edge with my scissors. I matted that on Blush Blossom and Chocolate Chip, and distressed the Chocolate Chip edges a bit, then popped it up with Pop Dots.

My Soft Sky card base is 5.25 x 5.25, and I sponged it with Close to Cocoa & Chocolate Chip as well. Using my Mat Pack & Paper piercer, I pierced 2 rows along the bottom edge. Then I sponged and pierced the top & bottom of the Tres Jolie designer paper, tied a bow with this yummy May Arts ribbon, & heated it a bit with my heat tool to make it curl. At the last minute I thought the little "thank you" in the corner added a cool touch.

We're off to swim and relax today...hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Stamps: All Holidays
Paper: Soft Sky, Blush Blossom, Chocolate Chip, Tres Jolie DP
Ink: Groovy Guava, Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa

Another Spunky One

I was feelin silly again...can you tell? I received this image in a swap and love love love him. I really need to buy this set but it keeps getting pushed down on the list with all the new goodies out right now.

Anywhoo, I colored him with Prismacolor Pencils and odorless mineral spirits, and then did some extra stuff to the platter and cake. The silver platter is covered in Diamond Glaze, the frosting is done with Liquid Pearls (gotta get some liquid applique...) and the flame is highlighted with Diamond Stickles.

The sentiment is from River City Rubberworks. I inked up the first half with my Take with Teal Marker, and used my stamp-a-majig to align it. The inside reads: "But you can't make me cook!"

I sponged the edges with Palette Hybrid Noir, pierced the edges, distressed them, and mounted on Basic Black & Tempting Turquoise Cardstock. I also pierced around the edges of the Turquoise...I'm a piercin fool!! I also added black brads to his coat where his buttons were. There was no room for ribbon or anything else on this card, so I just adhered the image to the Papertrey White card base.

On a side note, there was great sadness in my family today. One of my mom's horses, Silky, had to be put down this afternoon, and we were all there with her. She was old and blind in one eye, but she was just the sweetest horse. She lived a long and happy life. Here's a picture of my sister laying on her in their backyard. She is definitely in a better place, but she will be missed.

Stamps: Voila, River City Rubberworks
Paper: Papertrey White, Basic Black, Tempting Turquoise
Ink: Palette Hybrid Noir
Accessories: Taken with Teal Marker, Diamond Glaze, Diamond Stickles, Liquid Applique, Black Brads, Paper Distressor, Paper Piercer & Mat Pack, Prismacolor Pencils & Odorless Mineral Spirits, Stamp-a-Majig

It's V-Day!!

I just got Kinibella the other day in the mail and just had to ink her up! I colored her and got all ready to make a cutesy bella card...and this sentiment just jumped into my hand, inked itself up, and landed on the card. I couldn't help myself! Maybe because it was very late or just because I was feeling spunky, but either way it still makes me laugh to look at it. I probably should have added some embellishments here & there...maybe I'll go back and doodle on it a bit. But I just wanted to share!
Ok, so something important happened today:
